Zangy Alternative: A Flat-Price Reminder App That Calls You

Zangy charges $9.99 a month plus per-minute calls. What a real month costs, where Zangy wins, and when a flat-price call reminder app is the better pick.

If Zangy's bill is what's bothering you, the alternative is an app that charges a flat monthly price instead of a subscription plus a meter. FocusCall is one: plans start at $4.99 a month for 30 calls, and Pro is $9.99 for up to about 15 calls a day, with no per-minute charge. There's no free plan; you start with a trial, then pay.

If it's Zangy's strengths you like, stay. It rings any phone with no app, works in 60+ countries, and has a more natural AI voice than ours. Both are real advantages, and below you'll find the numbers and the trade-offs. We make FocusCall, so read this with that in mind. Everything about Zangy was checked on its own site and App Store page on October 26, 2026.

How much does Zangy actually cost?

Zangy bills in two parts: a $9.99 monthly subscription, and then calls on top of it.

Zangy charge Amount
Subscription $9.99 a month
Connected call, US number $0.128 a minute, rounded up to a full minute
Missed or unanswered call $0.10 flat
Free trial 7 days, with $0.50 in call credits, no card

Zangy's own rates page works through the simplest case: a one-minute daily reminder runs about $3.84 a month in calls, on top of the subscription. Here is the same arithmetic for four common months, assuming every call is answered and lasts under a minute:

Your month Zangy FocusCall
5 calls $9.99 + $0.64 = $10.63 Basic: $4.99 (30 calls a month)
30 calls (one a day) $9.99 + $3.84 = $13.83 Basic: $4.99 (30 calls a month)
90 calls (three a day) $9.99 + $11.52 = $21.51 Pro: $9.99
450 calls (fifteen a day) $9.99 + $57.60 = $67.59 Pro: $9.99 (about 15 a day is the fair-use cap)

Two things move these numbers. A call that runs past 60 seconds is billed as two minutes. And on Zangy every unanswered call costs ten cents, so a bad week costs more than a good one. You find out how much more when the balance runs down.

On FocusCall a reminder counts once against your plan, however many times Nag Mode has to ring you back. A missed attempt isn't a second charge.

Even a couple of calls a month doesn't flip the comparison. Zangy's meter barely runs at that volume, but its $9.99 subscription still does, against $4.99 for FocusCall Basic.

Where is Zangy better than FocusCall?

Quite a few places, and some of them decide the question on their own:

If any of those is a requirement, Zangy is the better product for you and the price difference doesn't matter.

Where does FocusCall fit better?

You pay one number. After the trial, Basic is $4.99 for 30 calls a month, Pro is $9.99 for up to about 15 a day, and Pro+ is $19.99 for up to about 30 a day. Every feature is on every plan; the plans differ only in how many calls you get. There's no per-minute meter and no per-missed-call fee. This is the whole reason people leave metered apps.

It keeps calling. Nag Mode rings again if you don't pick up. The default is 3 attempts, 10 minutes apart, and you can set both per reminder (the shortest gap is 5 minutes). On the Zangy pages we read, automatic retry calls aren't described, and its price list shows only a flat fee for missed calls.

You answer with the keypad. Press 1 for done, 2 to snooze, 3 for tomorrow, 9 to cancel, 0 to stop every future call. No second screen, no app to open. The rest of the call is built around that one decision.

Place and calendar triggers. FocusCall can call you when you arrive at a place, and it reads the calendars already on your iPhone (iCloud, Exchange, and Google accounts added in iOS Settings) in read-only mode. Zangy imports Google Calendar events and lets you approve which ones become calls.

If you want to try it, FocusCall is on the App Store and starts with a trial, so you can see whether a ringing phone reaches you before you pay.

Which one should you pick?

If this sounds like you Pick
I want to call a parent or partner, or I'm outside the US and Canada Zangy
I need Android or a web dashboard Zangy
I care most about how natural the voice sounds Zangy
I have a few important calls a month and want to know the bill in advance FocusCall
I want the reminder to ring again until I answer, and to reply with a key FocusCall
I'm on an iPhone with a US or Canadian number and want place or calendar triggers FocusCall

Neither app can promise you'll act on a call. FocusCall is a productivity tool, not a medical device.

The wider field is bigger than these two. We compared FocusCall with Zangy, ToDoCall and Simboo earlier in FocusCall vs Zangy vs ToDoCall vs Simboo, and sorted ADHD apps by the job each one does.

Frequently asked questions

Is Zangy free?

Zangy has a 7-day free trial with $0.50 in call credits and no card required. After that it's a $9.99 monthly subscription plus per-minute call charges: $0.128 a minute for US numbers, rounded up per call, and $0.10 for a missed one. Prices checked October 26, 2026.

Does Zangy work without installing an app?

Yes for the person receiving the call. Zangy rings a verified phone number like any other call, and you can manage reminders from its website, an iOS app or an Android app. FocusCall is different: the reminders live in its iPhone app.

Is FocusCall cheaper than Zangy?

For most usage, yes. Even at 5 calls a month Zangy costs about $10.63 against $4.99 for FocusCall Basic. At 30 calls a month Zangy costs about $13.83 against $4.99 for FocusCall Basic. At three calls a day it's about $21.51 against $9.99 for Pro. Zangy only comes out cheaper while its own free trial credit covers you.

Does FocusCall work outside the US and Canada?

No. FocusCall calls US and Canadian phone numbers only for now, and it's available on iOS. Zangy supports 60+ countries and is the better choice if your number is elsewhere.

Can I use both?

Yes, nothing stops you. A common split is Zangy for calls to someone else's phone or a number abroad, and FocusCall for your own must-not-miss reminders where you want Nag Mode and keypad replies.

Does either app replace medical advice?

No. FocusCall is a productivity tool, not a medical device, and doesn't diagnose or treat any condition. Zangy promotes medication reminders, but a reminder call is only a cue. For anything health-critical, talk to your clinician or pharmacist.
